Town News : A Midsummer Night's Dream
Posted by Col on 27/11/2009 22:48:15 (228 reads)

Sir John Deane's College presents its last ever theatrical production in the main hall between the 2-4th December 2009 – William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Over the years the college hall has hosted many award winning productions including “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Les Miserables”, “A Christmas Carol”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Cabaret” two versions of “Romeo + Juliet” and two staging’s of “Oh! What a Lovely War”. In future years, college productions will be held in an all-new facility…

A Midsummer Night’s Dream is one of the great comedy plays by William Shakespeare. The play revolves around the adventures of four young lovers, a group of amateur actors and their interactions with the fairies who inhabit a moonlit forest. The story is a complex farce featuring Hermia (Ashleigh Jones) & Lysander (Joe Blunt) and Helena (Hannah Munro) & Demetrius (Niall Black). Their romantic intrigues are confused and complicated still further by entering the forest where Oberon, the King of the Fairies (Hannah Noonan) and his Queen, Titania (Maisey Bawden), preside. Puck (Sian Clarke), the King’s favourite, is full of mischief and brings chaos to the forest. Meanwhile, another group of visitors enter the enchanted forest - Bottom the Weaver (Richard Stanley) and his friends are amateur dramatists who want to rehearse their terrible - but hilarious - version of the play ‘Pyramus and Thisbe’.

The production is directed by Chris Spring, Head of Performing Arts.

The show runs Wed 2 to Fri 4 December. Tickets are available from the college reception on 01606 46011 at £7.
