An Evening of Grand Prix Entertainment at the Thundersprint

Northwich Town Centre May 7/8Free Admission - Free Parking – Free Grandstand Seatingwww.thundersprint.comAn Evening of Grand Prix Entertainment at Thundersprint 2011GP racing comes to the Thundersprint on the evening of Saturday 7 May with an all star cast taking the stage at Northwich Memorial Hall.Doors open at 5pm and there is a hotpot supper available for £4.50, plus full bar facilities. The entertainment kicks off at 6.30 pm with appearances from classic superstars including, amongst many others, six times World Champion Jim Redman and European Champion Sammy Miller.Following the classic icons, Steve Parrish takes centre stage for what is guaranteed to be one of the liveliest nights in the 2011 motorcycling calendar. Steve said: “Having experienced the Thundersprint for the first time last year I now understand the uniqueness of the event. It is a great motorcycle extravaganza, the likes of which I have never experienced before.“I am really looking forward to Saturday evening when Matt Roberts and I can really get to know what makes Cal Crutchlow, Danny Webb and Chris Walker tick! And, trust me, I have a few questions to put to them that you will never hear on the BBC!”Steve will be assisted – not that he needs any encouragement - by his BBC team mate Matt Roberts, as they try to control the three liveliest, and most outspoken, riders in motorcycle racing.Cal Crutchlow, World Supersport Champion, and currently Britain’s only rider in MotoGP said: “I have heard so many good things about the Thundersprint that for 2011 I was determined to be there.“I enjoy racing in World Championship events but they are serious work in every way.“I’m coming to the Thundersprint to do what I love best in life: be with bikes, meet fans - and have a play about on the track too.”The evening concludes with “The Little Black Hearts” who are tipped for rock band superstardom and are one of the best British rock bands of their generation.Pre booked tickets cost £7.50 or £10 on the door. They are available from:Steve CaseyManager, Northwich Memorial HallChester Way,Northwich,Cheshire, CW9 5QJOr by ‘phone on 01606 814 640 or 01606 288 666var addthis_config = {"data_track_clickback":true};

Northwich Police Weekly Update

BurglaryNo house burglaries in Northwich in February to date.DrugsA drugs warrant was executed on 4th February 2011 on Redesmere Close, Leftwich. Four people were arrested for drug offences and they are currently on bail.On 6th February 2011 a 29-year-old man was issued with a possession of cannabis street warning on King Street, Northwich.On 6th February 2011 a 27-year-old local man was issued with a cannabis street warning on Middlewich Road, Northwich.Anti-social behaviourAnti-social behaviour involving young people in Leftwich has continued this weekend. Local officers attended a number of calls from concerned residents. Unfortunately the behaviour of some of the young people fell far below what the community should have to put up with. As a result officers arrested 3 youngsters for public order offences.I would like to pass a clear message to the young people that they must self regulate their behaviour and stop themselves and their friends from acting in an anti social manner.The Police and our partners in Cheshire West council and Weaver Vale Housing Trust will be sharing information on the youngsters involved in the anti-social behaviour and taking steps to stop it happening.Good arrestsTwo men from Bolton were arrested on 5th February 2011 on London Road, Northwich following a routine stop check. Both men were arrested for Going Equipped. One of the men was charged with possession of class B drugs and possession of an offensive weapon and the other man was charged with fraudulent use of a tax disc.var addthis_config = {"data_track_clickback":true};

Oops, the council drops a clanger

THE council has been forced to retract statements made about the regeneration of Northwich in one of its own newsletters.In its latest ‘You Said, We Did’ newsletter, sent out after the Marbury ward focused community forum, Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) stated that the mines stablisation project at Barons Quay has been signed off.But back in September Clr Mike Jones, CWAC’s leader, said it could be another two years before the mines were given their final certificates to say they were stabilised and safe to build on.A spokesman for Cheshire West and Chester Council said that, despite the newsletter, the mines project had not yet received its certification.He said: “The situation remains the same – the stabilisation of the mines is still being monitored and we anticipate that this will be the case for some time to come.”The same ‘You Said, We Did’ newsletter also revealed information which has yet to be made officially public.This included a summary about British Waterways working with a named developer on proposals for the marina site, which could include a new marina, houses and retail or food and drink outlets.It also featured plans to remove subways and proposals for a trial gyratory system for town centre traffic.Read more at The Northwich Guardian.var addthis_config = {"data_track_clickback":true};

MP vows to keep Delamere Forest open to the public

WEAVER Vale MP Graham Evans has promised he will ‘never, ever’ allow Delamere Forest to be fenced off to the public.The Northwich MP received assurance in Parliament that the Government will protect public access rights to the largest woodland in Cheshire.And MP Evans said he would be ‘absolutely appalled’ at the prospect of Delamere being destroyed for a short-term gain.“In Cheshire, we are incredibly lucky to have some wonderful woodland such as Delamere Forest, which is a great place to take the children or go for a run,” he said.“The Government has made it very clear that, without exception, rights of public access will be guaranteed, heritage forests protected, communities put first and biodiversity preserved.“No other approach would be desirable or acceptable.”Read more at The Northwich Guardian.var addthis_config = {"data_track_clickback":true};

MotoGP Comes to the Thundersprint

Northwich Town Centre May 7/8Free Admission - Free Parking – Free Grandstand Seatingwww.thundersprint.comGrand Prix racing is very much the theme of this year's Thundersprint, held in Northwich, Cheshire, over the weekend of May 7/8. And there are no more recognisable faces on the current GP scene than BBC TV's Steve Parrish and Matt Roberts.Steve is a hardened Thundersprint veteran having survived inspecting the tight, town centre track at 6.30 am, followed by a solid ten hours of meeting fans last year – and he is still keen on coming back for more in 2011.Both Steve and Matt will be at the Thundersprint all weekend beginning with guest appearances at the Thundersprint Bike Show on Saturday 7 May, followed by hosting: “A Night of Grand Prix Entertainment” at Northwich Memorial Hall theatre that same evening. Their packed weekend will finish with riding in the Thundersprint races on Sunday 8 MaySteve said: “Having experienced the Thundersprint for the first time last year, I now understand the uniqueness of the event. It is a great motorcycle extravaganza the likes of which I have never seen before.“This year is going to be particularly good and sharing the track with Cal Crutchlow, Chris Walker and Danny Webb means it’s going to be party time.”Matt said: “I am delighted to have been asked down to the Thundersprint this year - it's an event I've been following with interest for years.“I think it's a great concept and a fantastic opportunity to bring bike fans of all types and ages together, united by the one thing we all love.“I also can't wait to share a track with some of the leading names in our sport. I'm used to watching them from the pit wall so to be out there with them will be an amazing experience for me.”Thundersprint organiser Frank Melling said: “The best thing about Steve and Matt is that they are both hard core bike enthusiasts – as well as consummate broadcasting professionals. They are also real party people so, for sure, we're going to have a lively weekend in May.”var addthis_config = {"data_track_clickback":true};
